A self closing valve is a valve, basically of any type, that returns to a closed position after it has been opened by an active action. Self closing valves are often closed by means of a counter weight or spring. Quick closing valves represent a very important safety function in e.g. fuel systems in ships engine rooms. A quick closing valve is activated from a remote station in the event, or risk, of fire etc. Stop/globe valves represent the most frequent used type of quick closing valve.
